Executive Summary

Eric Calderon has been in the business of animation for over 30 years as an executive, writer,  show-runner, and producer. He has developed and worked on globally renowned award-winning shows and projects, specifically in the US, Canada, South East Asia, and Japan and has served at the senior level for multiple animation production companies and networks.

 

Falcon’s Beyond Global

Since 2020. Eric has been the Executive Vice President of Creative Development at Falcon’s Beyond. There, he contributes to the creative direction and narrative design of various location-based entertainment ventures including the upcoming DragonBall Theme Park (https://en.dragon-ball-official.com/news/01_2533.html) ,the Hershey themed ‘retailtainment’ venues, and the Hong-Kong based ‘VQuarium’ joint-venture based attraction.

In addition, he’s developing original intellectual properties for Falcon’s unique ‘flywheel’ business model across TV, film, video games, and license & merchandise opportunities with Falcon’s unique expertise in location-based entertainment.

Octopie and the Russo Brothers

Prior to that, Eric was the SVP of Development for Octopie Productions, an animation company that counts Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers film directors) as its partners where he was key in setting-up the Netflix animated series 'Magic: The Gathering' based on the famous card game owned by Hasbo / Wizards of the Coast (estimated 35 million players worldwide).

During that time, Eric also managed a slate of a dozen projects in production and development, including animated films, TV series, documentaries, and commercial work.

Show Runner experience

Before working with the Russo’s, Eric was a freelance writer/producer at WB Animation where he wrote the screenplay for the unproduced 'Teen Titans: Anime.' Additionally, at 20th Century Fox he co-wrote and produced the finished and unreleased 'AVP - Alien Vs Predator 'Annihilation,’ the anime. Before that, Eric was the Show Runner and Writer for 2 seasons of Hasbro’s The Transformers: Combiner Wars and Titans Return short series. During that time, Eric penned the first and second drafts of every episode of the 2nd season (10 eps x 11 min per ep).

Originals and Independent company ownership

From 2008-2014, Eric owned and operated a small production company called Wild Boar Media that produced animated pilots, a fully rotoscoped animated feature film ('Baton'), and a variety of smaller projects. It was during this time that Eric also wrote his first full graphic novel 'Cold Space' in partnership with Boom Studios and Samuel L Jackson. During its release, it sold roughly 15,000 copies.

 

Anime and MTV in the 90s

In the early and mid 2000s, Eric was one of the pioneers in the anime co-production space and developed and produced the Emmy-award winning series Afro Samurai (Samuel L Jackson) as well as Linkin Park’s ‘Breaking the Habit’ video which won the 2005 MTV Video Music Award (Viewer’s Choice). Before that, from 1994-1999 Eric was also the Director of Development for MTV Animation and oversaw the development and pilots for hits like Celebrity Death Match, Daria, The UnderGrads, and SpyGroove. His first series work was script notes for Aeon Flux.

 

Giving back

He is also the founder and host of 'Surviving Animation,' an animation industry-focused YouTube channel that seeks to share information about the business of cartoons to all of its subscribers. Its specific brand and over 40 free educational videos has led Eric to teaching opportunities, public speaking events, key note presentation, and an going consultation work.
